What is senna tea?
Senna tea is a herbal infusion made from the dried leaves of the senna plant (Senna alexandrina). Senna naturally contains compounds called sennosides, which have a laxative effect. It has traditionally been used for occasional constipation.
Senna is not a weight management or “detox” product. Any change on the scales from a laxative is water and waste, not fat, and regular use can upset your body’s balance of fluids and salts.

How to make senna tea
- Add 1 teaspoon of leaves to a mug.
- Pour over 200 ml of freshly boiled water.
- Leave to steep for 5 to 10 minutes.
- Strain and drink. Drink plenty of water during the day.
Senna usually works within 8 to 12 hours, which is why many people drink it in the evening.
